@ 30 weeks

from baby center:

How your baby's growing:
Your baby's about 15.7 inches long now, and she weighs almost 3 pounds (like a head of cabbage). A pint and a half of amniotic fluid surrounds her, but that volume will decrease as she gets bigger and takes up more room in your uterus. Her eyesight continues to develop, though it's not very keen; even after she's born, she'll keep her eyes closed for a good part of the day. When she does open them, she'll respond to changes in light but will have 20/400 vision — which means she can only make out objects a few inches from her face. (Normal adult vision is 20/20.)

How your life's changing:
You may be feeling a little tired these days (YES), especially if you're having trouble sleeping (DOUBLE YES). You might also feel clumsier than normal (OH YEAH), which is perfectly understandable. Not only are you heavier (GRRRR!), but the concentration of weight in your pregnant belly causes a shift in your center of gravity. Plus, thanks to hormonal changes, your ligaments are more lax, so your joints are looser, which may also contribute to your balance being a bit off (A LITTLE BIT). Also, this relaxation of your ligaments can actually cause your feet to spread permanently, so you may have to invest in some new shoes in a bigger size.

Remember those mood swings you had earlier in pregnancy? The combination of uncomfortable symptoms and hormonal changes can result in a return of those emotional ups and downs (ASK MY HUSBAND ABOUT IT HAHA!). It's normal to worry about what your labor will be like (I SHOULD START READING UP ON LABOR STAGES) or whether you'll be a good parent (WE WILL TRY OUR BESTEST!). But if you can't shake the blues or feel increasingly irritable or agitated, talk to your doctor or midwife (AN ESTREL'S CAKE WILL DO, THANK YOU). You may be among the 1 in 10 expectant women who battle depression during pregnancy. Also let your caregiver know if you're frequently nervous or anxious.

we're having a...

well, whaddya know? it's going to be a baby girl for k and i! and we're so happy to find this out after my CAS 3 weeks ago.

now we are debating over the name, began listing the names of our potential ninongs and ninangs, had myself listed for a baby registry, etc.

things are going to get real fast from hereon. with less than 3 months to go, we'd better start preparing seriously now! :)

my first amazon loot

when my friend A mentioned that her cousin Z was coming to manila in 2 weeks and that we can use her home address to ship our online orders (they did this before but i wasn't interested then), i was ecstatic! i wanted to order stuff for baby KR so badly! and so i did (had to restrain myself, kakahiya naman sa pinsan nya kung isang buong balikbayan box ang ipauwi ko hehe), and received the items today (sooo happy!!!):

1. Pepperpot Baby Record Book (Global Gathering)

ooohhh this baby record book is so cute and colorful! i plan to record special moments and firsts in this adorable book. its cover celebrates a global gathering with blue, green and friendly animals. book is 9 x 11.25" and features 80 full color fill-in pages, making it easy to create a keepsake. i can't wait to fill it with photos and notes! :)

2. The Baby Owner's Manual (Owner's and Instruction Manual)

i bought this specifically for k. :) i don't expect him to read What To Expect When You're Expecting and the other birth/nursing books i have so i got him this easy to read book with illustrations and diagrams. here's a review of the book:

The title, Baby Owner’s Manual, suggests the promise and the problem of this cheeky and comprehensive guide written by a pediatrician and his son. First-time parents who are not offended by the observation that "babies, unlike other appliances, lack instruction manuals," will find a rich resource of facts and advice. The book is divided into seven categories of "operating instructions" including home installation, feeding and power supply, sleep mode, maintenance, development, and safety. Complete with witty schematic drawings and charts, the authors answer hundreds of questions about breastfeeding, bed, bath, and beyond. While most manuals focus on tender loving care, the authors chose to focus on baby as technology. The result is a highly useful--almost too cool--reference book. Because every parent knows that babies are messier and more rewarding than this approach imagines. --Barbara Mackoff

3. Nikon COOLPIX S9100 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 18x NIKKOR ED Wide-Angle Optical Zoom Lens and Full HD 1080p Video (Black)

and to cap off my first amazon online order, i got this camera to replace the GE camera we have (low tech na ang 10MP grrrr!). if it were not for baby kr, i wouldn't get a new camera heehee but i would like to record each and every precious memory with baby kr and this camera will make sure we capture each moment. besides, the same camera in anson's cost 7,000 pesos more!!!

well, i have another "shipment" coming courtesy of our dear ninang in california. she's sending us baby stuff and i asked her if i can include my amazon orders and she said yes yey! so off i went and loaded up my amazon cart again with more baby stuff. i'll tell you all about it when the box arrives. :)

@ 28 weeks

from baby center:

You're in the home stretch. The third trimester typically starts at week 29 and lasts until week 40 and sometimes even beyond. (Don't worry - 42 weeks is the maximum! After that, a woman usually is induced to give birth.) Most women gain an average of 11 pounds/ 5 kilograms during this trimester.

By this week, your baby weighs nearly 2.3 pounds/ a little over 1 kilograms and may measure 14.8 inches/ 38 centimeters from top to toe. At about this time, your baby can open his eyes and turn his head in utero if he notices a continuous, bright light shining from the outside. His fat layers are forming and his fingernails appear.

elevated levels

glucose, triglycerides, cholesterol, HDL. grrrr.

i guess i would have to skip this treat. boo.

congenital anomaly scan at 25 weeks

last saturday, i underwent the congenital anomaly scan (CAS) as advised by our OB. k had a class so my sister and househelp accompanied me to the clinic.

as explained by dr. A, CAS is a detailed scan to check if our baby is developing normally. it was nervewracking really, as i didn't want to hear any bad news during the scan. too many what-ifs are circling in my head. night after night, i would always pray that our baby is safe, healthy, and normal. please please please let everything be normal.

as usual, the OB/sonologist who was doing the scan was late (an hour's wait!). what's it with doctors keeping patients waiting all the time?? i've never had a doctor's appointment where the doctor was on time!

anyhow, she made up for it naman as she was very pleasant during the entire scan. she explained every body part she was checking and showed me the screen while she was doing her observations (these are the toes, and they are complete 1-2-3-4-5). so glad to see that all our baby's body parts are normal and complete (whew)! but she also cautioned that i should still be more careful as i have 3 months more to go and an infection caught anytime may affect the baby. at may balak pa akong manood ng sine this week (wag na lang!)!

it's very reassuring to know that baby kr is developing well inside my belly. we have 2.5 months to go, baby dear! lapit na! :)
