kismet

kismet. n. Fate; fortune. [Turkish, from Persian qismat, from Arabic qisma, lot, from qasama, to divide, allot.]

life is full of surprises. :)

k and I first met at our friends' (mr. and mrs. p) wedding in 2006 as we were secondary sponsors in charge of the candles (we were partners!). except for some small talk, nothing came out of that meeting. we were both "busy" then. busy sa life, love life, career, etc. di nga yata halos nagpansinan e, i remember talking more with his friend e (another secondary sponsor) since his sister and i worked in the same office. so yun, we parted ways and never heard from each other again.

two years later, we met again at the hospital when mrs. p gave birth (i yet have to get that photo from mrs. p!). we were teased by mrs. p's dad to get together because we were both single. i didn't take it seriously, and i don't think he did either (only to find out later that he did hahaha!). we laughed along with judge (we found out that time that we were both ilonggo pala!), super kwento silang dalawa ni judge while chika naman kami ni mrs. p. k didn't even offer me a ride that night (pakipot raw sya, he didn't want to appear too eager hehe)!

a few weeks after, mr. p asked if i can give k my number since he was asking for it. i said sure, why not? another ilonggo friend is always welcome. :) k didn't call/text right away (he now says he was being "cool"). the day he did, he invited me out but i had dinner plans so he asked me for coffee instead. i had a feeling he really wanted to see me. tumambay ba naman ng mall ng 3 hours yata hehehe picked me up and we went to cheesecake, etc. in eastwood (he says he loves the pistaschio cheesecake there). we talked for hours (went home past 2am yata), but my initial impression was that "hmmmm... medyo may yabang ito..." i even texted mrs. p - NEXT!!! :D

i was out to make friends lang din naman (was in a it's-complicated situation then) so when he asked me out again (and again heehee), i agreed. we went to starbucks for coffee most of the time; dinner din kami here and there (found out we both loved steaks yum!). it was always a friendly date and i liked him a lot - he is malambing, maasikaso, magalang (the perfect gentleman!), funny, etc. another thing about k, he loves surprises! he turned up in my condo bearing gifts from his travels (and at another time, cheesecake!); sent a long-stemmed rose inside the spa where i was having a massage with my girlfriends; took me to a pba game (his bestfriend plays professional bball); visited me and my family in roxas (he told me he was in iloilo! and, he brought his mom with him!) during the holidays; etc.

when he sent me that rose, i told him i was complicated. He understood, but still would like to be friends. so, we were. we continued to go out, chat on the phone a lot, and he even offered love advice! :D now, when we talk about it, he'd say - i knew you were going to be mine. it was just a matter of time. :)

when things turned from it's-complicated to crap-this-is-enough-now-moving-on, k pursued me like crazy. relentlessly. persistently. finally, i gave in. ang kulit e! :P but seriously, we would always talk about our feelings, plans, and dreams. we got along so well, it's ridiculous!

one night, after preparing him a steak dinner (naks! labor of love!), he asked me, "kelan magiging tayo?" i said, "let's talk." and we did. we laid all our cards on the table. heart-to-heart, til the wee hours of the morning. after some tears and funny moments, we had a decision. sige na nga, tayo na. :)

the rest, they say, is history. we are inseparable. :)
