the wrath of typhoon ondoy

*photo from gma news website

as of this writing, my in-laws are still trapped on the second floor of their house in cainta, rizal.

the floods have risen up to one flight of stairs. good thing the rains and winds have calmed down. they're safe.

but damage has been done. 2 cars are totally submerged in water. all furniture, appliances, and personal belongings on the first floor have either floated or sank to the bottom.

i have been monitoring the news on www.gmanews.tv (no power in the condo), and listening to dzbb's live streaming. people who are cold and hungry have been hanging on to their rooftops for hours, waiting to be rescued. thousands of people are trapped in malls. roads are not passable. vehicles abandoned on the streets. the government (i heard that gma is going around the metro aboard a military truck. for real??) and even private citizens are doing their best to help . CVJ catering (we went to one of their food tasting events, yummy!) announced on air that they are opening their own clubhouse as shelter. ateneo de manila university is organizing their own rescue teams for pasig, cainta, and marikina residents. people are organizing 4x4 vehicles for rescue missions. neighbors are taking care of neighbors. God bless their generous hearts.

tomorrow is mom-in-law's birthday. when the roads become passable again, we'll be knocking at their doorstep with cake and balloons. and maybe a mop or two. :)

God is still good. but what has the world come to??
